Minnesota confirms first COVID-19 death as cases grow to 137
Star Tribune reported Saturday State Health officials announced a first COVID-19 death of a resident and total confirmed cases grew to 137.
The health department says the U.S has reported 19,624 cases of the virus while 284,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide since the outbreak.
Kris Ehresmann, the state Health Department's infectious disease director, said the resident in Ramsy County was hospitalized after three days as the person showed symptoms on March 13 and died Thursday, Star Tribune reported.
According to the Star Tribune, the state has closed schools, restaurants, and bars and encouraged 'social distancing' to reduce the spread of the virus.
Ehresmann said Minnesota is not yet at the point where it asks residents to stay their homes except for essential business, Star Tribune reported.
