Minnesota is well-known for its freezing and
lingering winter. Students at the University
of Minnesota are starting to feel that it’s time
to be prepared.

(Nat sound of students at campus)

"I am clinging to the hope that it's still fall."

"It's getting a little bit chilly. I am going to
prepare for the colder weather."

“Here at Boynton, they have seen lots of
coughs and colds and had three positive
cases of flu so far. They emphasize the
importance of protecting the health.”

“There is a strong correlation between
wellness and health and how students do
academically. Our health affects our academic
performance in particular with stress and
mental health, sleep which affects stress. I
mean there's a lot of data that suggests that
there's a high correlation there so it is important
to try to take care of your health if you want to
be successful as a student.”

Learning tips and resources can be your strongest
weapon to fight against the cold winter.

“Having a good pair of insulated boots or some
sort of shoe that has traction on the bottom
so that you're less likely to slip around. Walking
slowly as you're going between classes. If it's icy
out, try not to rush because that would increase
falls and using the tunnels. There is a lot of tunnels
to get to the place to place so that keep you out of
the icy.”

"There are other things like destress program,
Paws which is a pet away the worry and stress.
That's we bring animals in the room to hang out
with the animals for a while."

The session opens at several locations on the
East Bank, West Bank or St. Paul campuses
Monday through Thursday during the semester.
