With the spread of coronavirus came a surge in anti-Asian racism online, new research says

By Jane Lee

This week, we covered implicit bias which means unconscious and automatic thoughts about particular characteristics toward a certain group of people.

I read "With the spread of coronavirus came a surge in anti-Asian racism online, new research says" by CNN and got to think about how the outbreak of coronavirus would impact perceptions of the Asian community.

The author said the sentiments spread throughout social media cause misinformation and conspiracy theories surrounding Asians and coronavirus.

Several teenage girls attacked an Asian woman on a bus in New York and have charged with hate crimes, according to the article.

I think this can be an example of the implicit bias because even though they do not know the woman was from China, they automatically link the virus and their sentiments to her appearance as Asian and judged to attack her.
