The New York Times reported Monday President Donald Trump said he would temporarily suspend immigration to protect jobs for American workers.

Trump wrote on Twitter, “I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!”, mentioning immigrants as the invisible enemy, according to the New York Times.

Politico reported the Trump administration has restricted foreign visitors since the outbreak of coronavirus and closed the immigration office to pause processing for immigrants coming into the U.S. without visas.

The New York Times reported workers who have received visas, which permit to legally work for years in the U.S., would be denied to arrive

at this point for a while.

Since Trump was elected the number of visas issued to foreigners abroad has decreased from 617,752 in 2016 to 462,422 in 2019, according to the New York Times.
