The Guardian reported Wednesday Sen. Bernie Sanders has announced his withdrawal from the race for the Democratic nomination for 2020 presidential election.

In a live-streamed speech, he said, “Today I congratulate Joe Biden, a very decent man, who I will work with to move our progressive ideas forward,” according to TPM.

The Guardian reported the 78-year-old senator started with an early lead in the Democratic race, but began to fall behind after moderate Democrats supported Biden in South Carolina.

Sanders has also failed his first campaign for the Democratic nomination in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, according to The Guardian.

The Guardian reported Sanders said he supports former Vice President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee.
