Less driving, more of everything else: Minneapolis plans for future of transportation

By Jane Lee

Minneapolis City Council is enacting a new 2040 comprehensive transportation plan which will bring more availability of transportation for community security and energy conservation, Star Tribune reported.

City officials started building a guiding document of transportation improvement for the next ten years from this month by asking people's views on the plan at public workshops. Lisa Bender, a president of City Council, said they try to provide more options for growing neighborhoods, Star Tribune reported.

The city is planning to facilitate more public transit options including protected bike lanes in new housing areas. They hope it will reduce gas emission and traffic-related deaths which have recorded the average number of 95 percent of people died or injured on streets were walkers or bikers in the last decade, according to Star Tribune.
